The BC Securities Commission responded to my call for a review of its processss in a news release yesterday that I was unaware of and has not yet contacted me. If I am contacted I intend to reinforce that my call for a review aligns with the Provincial government’s broader anti-racism mandate and legislation which was enacted for the purpose of identifying, dismantling and preventing systemic racism within public institutions. The spirit of the initiative is to create a proactive approach to toward ensuring equity, inclusivity and diversity. It is meant to be transformative, and not punitive, and aimed at fostering an environment where every individual receives equal treatment and opportunities. A review by the BCSC would provide insights into how the institution operates and how it may better evolve to serve and promote diversity in the capital markets which is also consistent with the movement to create greater diversity in corporate governance. What is most notable about the BCSC’s response is the lack of any evidence to contradict my concern and the lack of evidence of introspection over the issue of systemic racism such as reviews, analyses, studies or any ongoing initiatives. Their response constitutes further support for my call for a review of its processes.
