🚀 And that's a wrap! 🌟 My book "Hands-On Salesforce Data Cloud" is now finished. It's been an incredible journey and in the coming weeks I'll have more posts about that journey and the people who've been such an incredible part of it. Today, I'd like to express my gratitude to the O'Reilly team. And I'd also like to give away a copy of the print version of the book for a reader to enjoy (details below).

Throughout my time writing ✍ this book, I've enjoyed meeting biweekly with Michele Cronin, the development editor for this book. She's an amazing editor and a really great human 👩. We always talk about the book, of course, but I never know ❓ where our conversation is going to take us. This is the second O'Reilly book I've worked on with Michele and while I'm excited for the book to be published, I'm not looking forward to the meeting invites with Michele disappearing off my calendar 📅. I know Michele has many other projects on her plate, and I look forward to reading the new O'Reilly books Michele currently has in the works.

Speaking of really great humans, there are so many incredibly positive things to be said about Clare Laylock, the production editor for this book 📘. I'm in awe at the way she keeps track of all the requirements and how she incorporates the many requested changes that never seem to stop 🛑 coming her way. And she handles it all with such grace under pressure 👸 . This is the second O'Reilly book I've worked on with Clare and I can't imagine trusting 🤝 my book to anyone else.

In addition to Michele and Clare, there's an entire O'Reilly team who make this book possible. Doug McNair (copyeditor), Sonia Saruba (proofreader) and Tom Dinse (indexer) have spent hours pouring over the contents of the book so the quality of the final product is what you'd expect from an O'Reilly book. David Futato (interior designer), Karen Montgomery (cover design), and Kate Dullea (illustrator) have made the book wonderfully appealing. I appreciate 🙏 all their contributions.

As I'm looking forward to the book being printed, I think back to how it all started. The origins of the book began in 2022 when Andy Kwan, the acquisitions editor, and I brainstormed 🧠 ideas for a new project and we decided on #SalesforceDataCloud as the topic for a new book. I really wanted to write a ☁ Salesforce book and am glad I've had the opportunity. For one thing, it led me to the world's foremost experts ⚡ in this area, Martin Kihn and David Raab (more about Marty and David in future posts).

Originally, the #datacloud book was expected to be a smaller book around 200 pages in length but the finished product is more than double that number! How many pages exactly?

Be the first person to guess correctly the number 🔢 of pages (either the actual number of physical pages or the "numbered" pages) and I'll ship a print version of the book anywhere in the world 🌐 allowed by the post office. Post your UNEDITED # guess (one per person per day) in the comments.

🚀 ANSWERS: New O'Reilly Generative AI-Powered Feature 🚀 Today, I tried out the new O'Reilly "ANSWERS" generative AI-powered feature on my own Snowflake Definitive Guide book! Very interesting. What are the top 3 things I like about ANSWERS?

  1. Content creators receive royalties for their work when it's used to provide an Answer (response). It's possible because Answers are always attributed to specific content. #EthicalAI

  2. The Answers AI Engine will tell you when it can't answer a question. If you ask a question that it can't answer directly, Answers will restate the question and then provide you with a list of references you can review yourself. #NoHallucination

  3. Content is available for Answers when new content is added to the O'Reilly learning platform. Answers never lag behind the rest of the platform. Soon my new Salesforce Data Cloud book will be available in its entirety on the O'Reilly learning platform. How cool is that?

One of the best explanations of Answers that I've seen is an article written by Mike Loukides titled "Answers: Generative AI as Learning Tool - A look at what O'Reilly is building with AI". You can find that article here: https://lnkd.in/gsV9yS5A

If you want more technical details about RAG, LLM, and the role Miso.ai played in building out Answers, here is another great article for you: https://lnkd.in/gxGmniXu
