With a background as a first-grade teacher for 17 years and an elementary school principal, Joyce has a deep understanding of the needs of students, teachers, and parents.

As a State Senator in Nevada from 2006-2010 and from 2012, Woodhouse advocated for the improvement of Nevada's education system by focusing on keeping funds in schools, enhancing standards, and increasing accountability.

Joyce Woodhouse also served as the Director of the School-Community Partnership Program for the Clark County School District, where she facilitated collaborations between the education sector and the business community to enrich student learning experiences.

Active in various community roles, Joyce has been recognized with distinctions such as 'Distinguished Woman of the Year' and 'Unsung Hero' for her contributions to public education.

Her academic qualifications include a Master of Educational Leadership and a Master of Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, along with a Bachelor of Elementary Education from Carroll College.
