Judith Salazar

Owner & Founder of Project Plasma/Saves Lives

Judith Salazar was a corrections officer (CO) with the Cook County Sheriff's Office from 2007 until November 2020.1 She worked in various roles within the department, including on the Tails of Redemption (TOR) tier, a unique program in Division 9 of the Cook County Jail where detainees cared for and trained dogs.1

In August 2018, Salazar reported sexual harassment by a fellow CO, which led to a series of events including:

  1. The accused CO being removed from his post
  2. Alleged verbal abuse and isolation from supervisors and co-workers
  3. Filing of formal complaints in October 2018
  4. Temporary transfer to another division
  5. Inability to return to her previous position in the TOR program

Salazar filed a lawsuit against Cook County and the Sheriff's Office, claiming hostile work environment based on sex and retaliation under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Illinois Human Rights Act.1

While specific details about her current status are limited, it appears that Salazar resigned from her position at the Cook County Sheriff's Department.23
