Should philanthropy pay for relationships? 🤔

I've been very lucky to work with some funders who recognize the primacy of #socialcapital as both foundational to human thriving, and, left unchecked, an engine of social inequality. But by and large philanthropy approaches relationships with more sentiment than strategy.

My latest in Inside Philanthropy unpacks the root of that tension. Whether you care about well-being, economic mobility, or democracy, social connection can and should be a foundational piece of your investment thesis. Here's why + how: https://lnkd.in/exXN99Pj

We build relationships through conversations - and we also build ourselves.

There's a clear story emerging around the challenges of launching a career in the midst of AI infiltrating entry-level work. An experience gap (H/T Ryan Craig, Nitzan Pelman) makes it hard for new talent to break into "entry-level jobs" requiring multiple years of experience. A second order effect of this? Less early career mentorship for fewer individuals. Whole sectors will be diligently using AI to unlock breakthrough efficiencies, all while shrinking their long-term leadership pipeline. Ed systems + industry need to work together to tackle this dilemma.
