Julia Izumi

Playwright, Performer, Educator, Public Speaking Coach

Julia Izumi is a playwright, performer, educator, and public speaking coach based in New York.2 She served as an Adjunct Lecturer in Playwriting at Brown University from September 2017 to May 2020.2 Izumi holds an MFA in Playwriting from Brown University, which she completed in 2019.25

As a playwright, Izumi's works include "Regretfully, So the Birds Are," "miku, and the gods.," and "Sometimes the Rain, Sometimes the Sea".1 Her plays have been developed and performed at various theaters, including Playwrights Horizons, ArtsWest, and Rorschach Theatre.13 She has received commissions from organizations such as True Love Productions, MTC/Sloan, and Seattle Rep.1

Izumi is currently a New Dramatists Resident playwright for the class of 2029.14 She has also been recognized with honors such as the OPC Dr. Kerry English Award and as an O'Neill Finalist.1

In addition to her playwriting career, Izumi has experience in arts administration, having worked at Samuel French, Inc. as a Professional Licensing Representative and at Signature Theatre Company as a Ticket Services Representative.2 She is currently a Playwriting Teacher at Saint Ann's School in Brooklyn, New York.2
