Julia Marie Schaepe is a PhD student in Bioengineering at Stanford University.23 She was admitted to the program in Autumn 2020 and is currently a member of the Greenleaf Lab.4 Julia is an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) Fellow4 and a Colella Family Fellow.3
Her research focuses on transcription factors and gene expression dynamics. Specifically, she is developing a novel platform to quantitatively measure binding of transcription factors to single molecules of DNA in cells and track their behavior over time.35 This work aims to enable the construction of predictive models for gene expression dynamics from regulatory DNA sequences.
Prior to her PhD, Julia completed her BS in Bioengineering at Stanford University.4 During her undergraduate studies, she participated in Stanford's Bio-X Undergraduate Summer Research Program in 2019, where she worked on developing computational methods to study 22q11.2 deletion syndrome using 3D brain cultures.1
Julia has co-authored several publications, including recent work on single-molecule chromatin configurations and their link to transcription factor binding and gene expression in human cells.6
