So grateful when lessons come when you need them most. A former student’s mom reached out to me and shared the message below. After 3 years (which, when you’re going from 4th grade to the end of 7th grade, feels like a lifetime!), Jay’len and I caught up about our very shared experience of losing our marbles during this pandemic, what it means to be a middle schooler in a virtual world, how to live into Rita Pierson’s motto every day, and how we can be there for each other even when we’re 1,000 miles apart. Thank you, Jay’len, for reminding me that when everything feels outside of the locus of my control, relationships matter most of all. Always grateful for my students like you who continue to teach me to lead with resiliency and empathy.
