Last week, I was fortunate to join a group of Maine-based communications pros for a tour of L.L.Bean ‘s new, global HQ in Freeport!
Born in Maine, I have early memories of L.L. Bean items received at milestone moments — monogrammed boat totes to carry school books, the classic blue and white ragg wool sweater with a white turtle neck, and my beloved first pair of LL Bean boots! As teenagers/young adults with no social media, a love for the outdoors, and general interest in “suburban exploring,” it was the coolest and most wholesome outing to drive with friends to the L.L. Bean retail store — at any hour — and find the doors open for shopping.
L.L. Bean’s dedication to customers and quality is unmatched and its commitment to helping anyone “Be an outsider” is inspiring and much-needed in today’s world.
Prior to the pandemic, I lived away from Maine for 30+ years. While I miss California and my life there very much, moments like last week’s tour of an iconic brand I’ve admired since childhood, the kindness extended by the welcoming team at L.L. Bean, and the company’s focus on building meaningful connection among people and the outdoors — remind me of Maine’s profound beauty and uniqueness.
Thank you to Veronique McAree , Kelly Warsky, and the rest of the L.L. Bean team for hosting us last week. Your new campus is stunning — from the welcoming fireplaces, to the impressive in-house production studios, rad wind & rain room for product testing, collaborative spaces in / outdoors, and the delicious dipping sauces prepared by your in-house dining team.🙌
