Julie Muir is an industry expert with over 25 years of experience in waste reduction, recycling, composting, and solid waste management. She is currently spearheading the zero waste initiative at Stanford University, elevating the campus from a 30% to a 66% recycling rate.

In her previous role as Community Relations and Zero Waste Manager at Peninsula Sanitary Service, Inc., Julie played a pivotal role in leading sustainability efforts for a local, family-owned recycling and solid waste company.

Passionate about environmental education, Julie collaborates with the Stanford University community to drive waste reduction strategies and raise awareness about the interconnectedness of zero waste, sustainable materials management, the circular economy, and climate change.

Julie Muir holds a Bachelor's degree in International Relations with an emphasis on Natural Resources and a minor in Environmental Policy and Planning from the University of California, Davis.

She also contributes her expertise as the Past-President and Senior Advisor of the California Resource Recovery Association (CRRA) and serves as the Chair of the Zero Waste Campus Council within CRRA.
