Julio Salcedo-Castro

Adjunct Lecturer at UNSW Canberra

Julio Salcedo-Castro is a marine biologist and physical oceanographer currently serving as an Adjunct Lecturer at UNSW Canberra in the School of Science.12 He holds a PhD in physical oceanography from Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada.2 His research focuses on land-ocean interaction, particularly estuaries and river-coast processes.1

Dr. Salcedo-Castro's work involves:

  1. Leading a river plume modeling project
  2. Coupling catchment models to coastal models to study the influence of rivers on the Great Barrier Reef coast
  3. Combining modeling with remote sensing and observational data to study coastal processes at various scales1

His main research interest lies in understanding how hydrological regimes influence coastal dynamics, specifically in terms of circulation and sediment transport.1

In addition to his role at UNSW, Dr. Salcedo-Castro has held other academic positions:

  • Lecturer in Physical Oceanography at the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies, University of Tasmania4
  • Lecturer at Queensland University of Technology in the School of Earth & Atmospheric Sciences5

Dr. Salcedo-Castro is actively involved in academic workshops and research collaborations. He is organizing a workshop scheduled for April 9-11, 2024, in Concepción, Chile.3
