How can you avoid getting political ads on your cell phone during this election season? 📵 Here are some key tips to help you beat back the onslaught:
-
Consent is Crucial: Political robocalls and texts to mobile phones require your prior express consent to comply with the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA).
-
Understand Landline Rules: While political robocalls to landlines don't need prior consent, there is a limit of no more than three calls within any consecutive 30-day period.
-
Review Your Consent: Make sure you have knowingly consented to receiving these calls or texts in the past. Check your interactions with the campaign to confirm.
-
Revoking Consent: You have the right to revoke your consent at any time. For texts, a simple reply of "STOP" should suffice.
-
Spot and Report Violations: If you receive unwanted texts, forward them to 7726 (SPAM). For robocalls or texts that violate FCC rules, consider filing a complaint at fcc.gov/complaints
