Highlights
Is your dropship strategy stuck in the 90’s?
Mirakl spoke to dozens of retailers to understand how an outdated dropship platform can affect CX and the bottom line.
The 3 key factors that have outsize impacts are:
- Slow vendor onboarding 🚶♂️
When the Boston Celtics (hopefully) win the NBA Championship and Jordan Brand releases the Tatum 2 Mint Foam Vortex that he's wearing when he hits the winning shot, most retailers won't have that version in stock and/or colorway pushing customers towards DTC, specialty brick & mortar or independent online resellers.
Now multiply this effect across thousands of SKUs... The opportunity cost of inefficient onboarding in major retail is massive. With a efficient vendor onboarding they could get products uploaded in days or even hours!
- Limited catalog variety 📦
Sticking with that same example. The shoe is going to come in Mint Foam, Lava Glow, Black, Hyper Jade, and Key Lime. Multiply those colors across Men's, Women's, Grade School, Preschool and Toddler sizes and you are looking at A LOT of options.
Nike is notoriously fickle with what inventory they offer to retailers and when. To capture the full assortment, a retailer may have to commit to outsized purchases and shelf space.
With efficient vendor onboarding and a scaled seller base a retailer could round out their catalog without making tradeoffs or taking on the inventory risk.
- Inadequate product detail pages 📝
Nothing makes a customer second guess their purchase quite like an "image not found" icon. Product page detail is crucial for conversion (and the web experience in general).
Monitoring these product page attributes at scale can prove challenging. A modern dropship platform with AI-powered QA features is essential to getting from "it's available" to "it's selling!"
