Highlights
I got to spend the last week participating in many of the events at #ceraweek . Seeing the passion for innovation, the new thinking, and how our industry progresses continues to bring me pride to be part of it.
I had the pleasure of discussing the future of investment in the refining and chemicals markets with Sandeep Sayal of S&P Global, Ghanim N. Al-Qtaibi of Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC)- KUWAIT, and Bryan Glover of Honeywell UOP. From expanding petrochemical production to the role of low carbon hydrogen, we shared ideas of how the industry will evolve over the next decades.
Perhaps the topic I received the most inquiry on was how the workforce is positioned to meet the changing demands. Do we have the right skills in our engineering ranks and do we have enough engineers to deliver what the world needs? We here at Wood have focused on building the skillsets for the #energytransition to partner with our clients with thought leaders across #renewablefuels , #ccus , #hydrogen, and #electrification .
The new year means an exciting change here at Wood and one that means a lot to me personally. We have decided to combine the Renewables, Power, and Industrials business with our Process and Chemicals business in the Americas to form a powerhouse that can harness all the incredible talent that Wood has built over the years. We now have over 3,000 technical staff delivering projects from Kitimat to Tierra del Fuego.
My mission for the last 5 years has been to stay at the front of market and ensure that we are built to deliver the projects of today and tomorrow. The market has increasingly sought integrated providers to handle projects focused on providing materials to enable a net zero future and to do so in a decarbonized and digitized way. Our integrated business puts all those components in one place to provide laser focus on serving the process and power industries as we partner with our clients to tackle the world’s greatest challenges.
Often as people move positions within a company, it means that they leave a group that has been their team and their family in order to grow with a new team. I have been there before and always empathize when I see it described as bittersweet to walk away from a business they have poured themselves into for years and relationships that they cherish. I get the best of both worlds and am fortunate to get to lead the combined business. I will continue to work with our talented leaders in the forest industries, power and specialty chemicals markets; but it also means I will now be leading our refining and petrochemicals team that is largely based out of Houston where I spent most of my career and many of my closest friends in the company and industry are.
What an exciting time to be part of #TeamWood. We are growing across the Americas and on the lookout for the next talented engineers that will help transform our vision to reality.
