Highlights
KPMG Australia's Enterprising Cities report provides a unique snapshot and insight into twelve of Australia’s fast-growing centres, the new engine rooms of our economy. Rightly included in this list is Adelaide, so what does the Enterprising Cities analysis tell us about the Adelaide and broader South Australian economy?
Employment and Population growth in Adelaide continues to outperform historical trends - the unemployment rate is the lowest it has been for many years and the participation rate is consistently trending upwards. Combined with a strong population growth, particularly since the Covid pandemic, it augurs well for capitalising on the opportunities that South Australia's economic transformation presents - Advanced Manufacturing, Defence, AI and the Renewables sector.
Within the Enterprising Cities report you can see that Australia's mid-market makes a significant contribution to the nation's economy. From an Adelaide perspective it also means that the policy settings need to be right to attract capital, people and investment in a very competitive market across the country.
Access to affordable housing must be front of mind, alongside initiatives to increase the participation rate and make it easier for people to engage and, in particular, re-engage in the workforce.
Full credit to Terry Rawnsley and his team on the comprehensive analysis of the locations that contribute so much to the growth and performance of the Australian economy. It is a highly informative report and well worth reading.
