Kai-Young Chan is a Hong Kong-based composer with a passion for creating music that interacts with societies and cultures, focusing on the intricate musicality found in Chinese literature, especially within the tonal Cantonese language.

His educational background includes a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Music Composition from the University of Pennsylvania, a Master of Music in Music Composition, and a B.A. in Translation/Music from The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Currently, Kai-Young Chan serves as an Assistant Professor at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, building on his previous roles as a Composer, English-Chinese Translator, Lecturer, and Benjamin Franklin Teaching Fellow.
