Highlights
Granted almost all the problems Intel has precede the arrival of Pat Gelsinger as CEO about three years ago but he has been uniquely lackadaisical about things since his arrival.
Instead of investing in its core business Intel had gotten into a lot of businesses when the monopoly profits were flowing in. He chose not to shed all the unrelated businesses it had accumulated to make a statement that a new lean and mean Intel is on the way.
Pat's decision to focus on fabs as the future of Intel was particularly bad. No IP driven business can revive itself by having a better manufacturing capability. He chose to solve the nation's problem of not having the state of the art chip manufacturing, rather than Intel's problem of not having state of the art AI capability. It took a direct order from the board to prioritize AI business.
In any case, time has run out. Intel is in full panic mode. Board members are bailing out. Now his hand is being forced by the market. Wall Street has written it off.
