Do we pay enough attention to #CriticalEnergyTransitionMinerals when we think about the #JustEnergyTransition?
As I dive more into what the #JustEnergyTransition means in terms of the raw materials needed to enable this transition, I am coming to realise just how challenging the issue of #CriticalEnergyTransitionMinerals (CETMs) will become, especially at the nexus of exponentially increasing demand for CETMS, #humanrights, #equity and #justice, as well as #biodiversityconservation.
And so it fills me with hope that the UN Secretary General has recently Launched the UN SG's Panel on Critical Energy Transition Minerals. Thank you so much María José Baptista for spelling out the process for the UN Secretary General’s Initiative on #CriticalEnergyTransitionMinerals over the next few months. As you said the aim is to galvanize collective action in what is a highly fragmented space. This task won't be easy, but it is essential if we are going to be able to claim in years to come that the energy transition was indeed a just one.
"The most important thing each of us can know is our unique gift and how to use it in the world. Individuality is cherished and nurtured, because, in order for the whole to flourish, each of us has to be strong in who we are and carry our gifts with conviction, so they can be shared with others."
~Robin Wall Kimmerer, from the book, Braiding Sweetgrass
