As a Floridian, I grew up knowing about Cuba. I knew that our Cuban neighbors had less rights than I did because they happened to live 80 miles away. I knew that the people of Cuba continued to persevere through endless decades of Dictatorial regime that continues to this day. Our Cuban neighbors weren't even allowed to use the internet until the mid 2010's. Take a second and imagine that.

My dear friend, Elvis Morales, managed to teach himself web-development (which is also the field I work in) while not having legal access to the internet for years. I cannot imagine trying to do this without the luxury of the internet itself. He escaped to the US in 2014 and became a US citizen 2 years ago.

Unfortunately, like many Cuban exiles, his parents are still in Cuba, and due to disability and mobility issues, have not had a safe time to try to immigrate and join him here. As of January 6th, 2023, Biden has created a safe way for his parents to join him in the US.

This move however, will be extremely expensive because Elvis will be the sole benefactor for his parents' care and housing. He's only 36 years old. His Dad suffers from a treatable eye condition, and his mom has an issue with her lymphatic system. You can see how they will have a much better life here after they receive medical care, but as we all know, medical care in this country can bankrupt a person.

I pray that his parents make it over here, no matter the cost. If you'd like to donate to Elvis's parents gaining their freedom, eye-site/mobility, and proximity to their only grand-daughter, please consider throwing a few bucks into this fund-raiser. Until Cuba's people are free, we must help our friends and neighbors.
