I just returned from my yearly pilgrimage to the 9/11 Memorial & Museum with fellow survivors and friends for Community Day. There are always new things to see and appreciate.

“Trying to Remember the Color of the Sky on That September Morning” by Spencer Finch is still my favorite display 🩵

This art installation created in 2014 is composed of 2,983 individual watercolor drawings, each a distinct attempt by the artist to remember the color of the sky on the morning of September 11, 2001 💙

Commemorating the people killed in the attacks on September 11, 2001 and February 26, 1983 every square is a unique shade of blue combining to create a panoramic mosaic of color 🩵

Finch’s work centers on the idea of memory. What one person perceives as blue might not be the same as what another person sees. Yet, our memories, just like our perception of color, share a common reference 💙

I was so excited to see Ken speaking at the #DNC. It was always rumored that when he retired from Amex he would run for office. He was, and still is, an incredible leader.

My first job was in the office of the CMO at American Express. I'll never forget being the fly on the wall whilst Ken and the Executive team weighed in on our messaging in response to VISA's nasty anti-Amex merchant campaign "We Don't Accept American Express" 🚫

The ad agency had a lot of creative ideas to fight back. Instead, Ken opted to lead with "choice" and not try to restrict consumer behavior thru merchant card acceptance embargoes.

"Choice" meant providing the best value and service to our cardmembers and merchants so that their CHOICE would be Amex, not VISA. 😎

As Ken said last night "Democracy provides the foundation upon which our business and our economy depend. Character and values matter. In business nothing is more important than trust"
