Some of you may have seen previous mention of a serious challenge I am undertaking later this year. Myself and Ed Shaw will be rowing 3000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean, from La Gomera in The Canary Islands to Antigua as part of 'The Worlds Toughest Row'. We are team 2Sstroke and we will be doing this in a 24ft rowing boat, completely unassisted, taking everything on board for the entirety of the journey. This is likely to take us somewhere between 45-80 days, rowing 24hrs a day in individual 2 hour shifts (2 on 2 off). We have been training for nearly 3 years and will spend much of our spare time and weekends throughout 2024 training on our boat, based in Weymouth. We are aiming to raise as much money as we can for Dementia UK and Prostate Cancer UK as we have experience of both in our immediate families. To do this we have some wonderful corporate sponsorship packages available. The coverage of the race is enormous, with print, TV and digital audiences in the multi-millions. Who wants brand visibility on the side of a boat seen by millions, or logos on training and race apparel, great social media coverage and even corporate team events? This is a unique opportunity in a fast growing endurance sport. So can you help, or do you know anyone that can? Please ask us for more information regarding the various opportunities and also spread this amongst your networks. How important is it to you to ensure your design and print production deliverables are environmentally sustainable? From household products to commercial services, people are often looking for options that are not only affordable and efficient, but also ‘green’.
But it is fair to say that not everything that is sold as ‘green’ is as good for the environment as we might perceive. Terms such as recycled, eco-friendly, non-toxic, plant-based, plant-derived, healthy, organic (without certification) or green may not always be what they seem.
The main deterrent to ensuring your print and production purchases are environmentally friendly is of course the cost. Whilst most companies will want to be seen to be environmentally conscious their budgets don’t always match their intentions. There are also of course some limitations to ‘green’ production as materials are also not always as readily available across the full spectrum of production projects.
So, I thought I’d put it out there. Are you willing to pay a higher price for materials and practices that are better for the environment? What does your company policy dictate regarding sustainable purchasing?
