Karl Lehenbauer, the principal architect at FlightAware, is renowned for his expertise in designing and managing large, real-time applications across various industries.

With a rich background in aircraft systems, electricity generation, and oilfield applications, Lehenbauer has a wealth of experience in mission-critical technologies.

As an Internet pioneer, he founded the first Internet Service Provider in the Southern United States and has been a significant contributor to open-source Internet projects since the mid-1980s.

Prior to his current role, Lehenbauer worked with GE Aircraft Instruments on engine monitoring devices and played a key role in the development of the Tcl programming language.

Aside from his professional achievements, Lehenbauer is an active sports enthusiast, engaging in cycling, kayaking, and race car driving, where he clinched the 2015 points championship in Texas.

He holds a background in Computer Science from Indiana University Bloomington and has held advisory and leadership positions in prominent organizations like Collins Aerospace, Superconnect, and NeoSoft.
