Karthik Ram is a seasoned Senior Scientist at the Berkeley Institute for Data Science (BIDS) and the Berkeley Initiative for Global Change Biology. He is also the Co-founder and Director of rOpenSci.

His academic background includes a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of California, Davis.

Karthik has held various roles in prestigious organizations like The Navigation Fund, where he served as a Program Officer for Open Science. He was also a Research Associate Professor at the University of California, Berkeley and a Senior Research Data Scientist, Data Science Fellow, and Assistant Researcher at the same institution. Additionally, he has been a member of the Advisor Board at the Software Sustainability Institute.
