Tomorrow is global Women's Entrepreneurship Day, an opportunity to reflect on the contributions of female entrepreneurs to society. And while I have been fortunate to mentor many women who have gone on to found startups, small businesses and nonprofits, this year, I want to recognize the female entrepreneurs whose work falls outside normal startup or economic development metrics but whose contributions are no less entrepreneurial in creating impact.

Women like the talented Sam Rudder who as a University of Oregon - Charles H. Lundquist College of Business got engaged with UO Lundquist Center for Entrepreneurship programs, and even worked on her own venture, taking those entrepreneurial skill sets learned, post-graduation, as a new author, into publishing an insightful and witty book on branding (Wingman) that came out earlier this year that every designer or individual who loves marketing will find value in picking up a copy.

As the University of Cincinnati's Center for Entrepreneurship readies to launch a new women's entrepreneurship initiative in the new year, I have been thinking a lot about former female students of mine who, like Sam, went on to take their entrepreneurial skills and mindset through other channels beyond traditional business formation. Recognizing the breadth of entrepreneurial outlets and experiences provides our young women with a greater perspective on what it means to be an entrepreneur and how engaging in entrepreneurship can advance their overall career goals.

So, here's to you Sam, and all my former female students, who as entrepreneurs (and intrapreneurs), are making impact on this Women's Entrepreneurship Day 2022, and redefining what it means to be an entrepreneur.
