Kate Hartman

Kate Hartman is an Associate Professor at OCAD University, where she serves as the Graduate Program Director of Digital Futures.14 She is also the founding Director of Social Body Lab, a research and development team focused on exploring body-centric technologies in social contexts.12

Hartman's work spans the fields of physical computing, wearable electronics, and conceptual art.3 She is the author of the book "Make: Wearable Electronics" and has work included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.13

In addition to her roles at OCAD University, Hartman is an Adjunct Instructor at New York University's Interactive Telecommunications Program and the Director (or "Un-Director") of ITP Camp.24 Her research interests lie at the intersection of physical computing, participatory art, design research, and human-computer interaction, with a focus on exploring new possibilities for expressive, tactile, and embodied interactions.1

Hartman has been with OCAD University since June 2014 and has been directing the Social Body Lab since 2010.4 She is currently working on the second edition of "Make: Wearable Electronics," which is expected to be released in early 2025.2
