Highlights
Today, I welcomed a group of international researchers at Manchester Metropolitan University Business School. Our guests came from the University of Niš (Serbia), Faculty of Economics, University of Banja Luka (Bosnia and Herzegovina), University of Tirana (Albania), and we were also joined by ISPIM - International Society for Professional Innovation Management's Director, Iain Bitran.
The researchers are collaborating on the EU-funded 'USE IPM project' (https://useipm.com/), which ISPIM supports alongside other partners. Our discussions centred on how we support science, technology and innovation in the UK, with a focus on university-industry partnerships and startup growth. We had a number of really interesting sessions and tours.
◾ Dr Trevor A. Brown drew on his experience working in and with industry, emphasising the value of knowledge transfer partnerships and our degree apprenticeships as gateways to industry collaboration. ◾ James Crawley from the Centre for Enterprise at Manchester Metropolitan University offered insights into the centre's work supporting SMEs and forging relationships with local businesses. ◾ Gary Lindsay introduced us to InnoSpace and treated us to a series of engaging elevator pitches from promising entrepreneurs. We topped off the day with a fascinating tour of PrintCity MMU, exploring the world of 3D printing.
Today's sessions highlighted the symbiotic relationship between our teaching and research, demonstrating how our partnerships with businesses and policymakers enhance the student experience, boost graduate employability, and create fertile ground for cutting-edge research and knowledge exchange - all while delivering tangible benefits to our industry collaborators and society. It's days like these that make me truly #ManchesterMetProud.
