Yesterday, my dreams as a civic technologist came true. Gov. Wes Moore and I announced four major digital transformation initiatives to move Maryland forward: 1) an Executive Order on Artificial Intelligence; 2) the creation of the Maryland Digital Service; 3) the State's first-ever Digital Accessibility Policy; 4) and the creation of the Maryland Cyber Task Force.

All of these initiatives reinforce each other. To drive a competitive economy for our residents, we must embrace new technology (AI). To embrace new technology, we need talented experts (MDDS). The talented experts must ensure the technology is accessible to all, and all should know their information is secure.

I've been building interdisciplinary technology teams for 10 years. This time, I had Tech Talent Project to help me recruit the leaders responsible for developing these initiatives. I am profoundly grateful to work shoulder-to-shoulder with this crew. And I look forward to welcoming more of you, the door is open for you to join us! #civictech #digitalservice

Sworn in at 39 weeks!

I was honored to be sworn in on Thursday by Gov. Wes Moore and Lt. Gov. Aruna Miller as the next Secretary of the Maryland Department of Information Technology.

With the countdown to parental leave on, I told my team I wanted to focus on Senate confirmation, budget hearings, and an initial plan to address the challenges ahead of me. We did it!

Thank you to my team Melissa Leaman Patrick Mulford John Bruns Stefanos G. Rob Bishop Ashley Laymon, MBA, PMP, CSM Maria Fisher Howard Barr for spending the last six weeks getting me up to speed and coaching me through these processes. I know new leadership is stressful, and you all have been so patient and gracious sharing your time, expertise and institutional knowledge. I value your willingness to challenge "the way we've always done things" and partner with me to create a new vision. We're going to get great things done for the State.

My appointment this pregnant during Women's History Month reflects how far we've come as a society. I am grateful to feminists before me for paving the way, to my mother Rita Olson for providing me with an example, and to the Moore-Miller administration for living the value of inclusivity. My daughter will know from the very beginning that she is capable, worthy and valued. #womenshistorymonth #letsgettowork
