What is the REAL power of recognition? As I am working in my home office (after a long and wonderful week of travel), I am overhearing my parents who are visiting from Connecticut talking to some family also in town visiting.

For context, my mother Mary Ann was a career CNA until her recent retirement this year.

My father is telling our other family how proud he was of my mother receiving the rose award from The Hospital of Central Connecticut. He said how special it was and how he could not believe everything her manager and the hospital did to recognize her.

She must have received her rose award 7 years ago (it was before covid which feels like a lifetime ago). And here they both are speaking for the last 30 with smiles and such fondness recalling stories of patients and coworkers to their loved ones as if the award was yesterday.

It is just such a reminder that it is all too easy to wrap up our Fridays with our tasks, and the power is how we show appreciation to the people who show up every day for each other and our patients. When our employees feel seen, heard, valued, and loved it makes us better stewards of our mission and it enriches their lives and wellbeing. Wishing everyone a beautiful weekend, Katie
