Kayla Urquidi

Kayla Urquidi is an experienced educator and Inquiry Coach at the Knowles Teacher Initiative.12 She began her teaching career in the fall of 2012, initially teaching middle school math and science at an arts integration school.1 In 2015, she transitioned to teaching ninth and tenth-grade biology at San Francisco International High School, a public school for recent immigrants.1

Kayla holds a Master of Teaching in Science Education from Stanford University and a Bachelor of Arts in Human Biology from Brown University.1 As an Inquiry Coach, she leads a monthly virtual inquiry group with 11 other Knowles educators from across the country.2

Throughout her career, Kayla has demonstrated a commitment to equity and improving outcomes for underserved students. She has helped start equity-based inquiry groups for her school's staff and worked on de-tracking math classes in grades six through eight.1 Kayla is passionate about empowering young people and creating schools that support students in making positive changes in their communities.1

In addition to her professional pursuits, Kayla enjoys trail running, cooking, reading, and traveling by biking and camping.1
