Keith Walcott

Staff Research Associate at University of California, San Francisco

Keith Walcott is currently a PhD candidate and NSF Graduate Research Fellow at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).13 He was previously a Staff Research Associate at UCSF from September 2019 to June 2022.4

Keith was born in Oakland, California, and received his bachelor's degree in biochemistry and molecular biology from UC Santa Cruz.1 During his undergraduate studies, he worked for a startup called Pinpoint Science, helping to develop a rapid point-of-care diagnostic for detecting viral infections.1

After completing his bachelor's degree, Keith joined Anita Sil's laboratory at UCSF, where he studied fungal pathogens Coccidioides posadasii and Histoplasma capsulatum and managed the lab's BSL3 facility.1 This experience likely contributed to his current research interests in host-pathogen interactions.1

In 2022, Keith announced that he would be starting his PhD at UCSF.2 He is now pursuing his doctorate in the Tetrad graduate program, focusing on the mechanisms underlying host-pathogen interactions.13 Outside of his academic pursuits, Keith enjoys exploring film and digital photography as a creative outlet.1
