Ken McConnell is the Manager of Industrial Participation at the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario).2 In this role, he manages a team that supports aerospace and defense clients, including original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and suppliers, to promote economic growth in southern Ontario through Canada's defense procurement initiatives.2

McConnell's work is closely tied to the Industrial and Technological Benefits (ITB) Policy, which aims to create business opportunities for Canadian industry through federal defense and security procurement projects.1 His team helps global defense contractors find investment opportunities and suppliers in southern Ontario, while also assisting local companies, universities, colleges, and organizations in understanding how to engage with Canada's defense sector.1

Some key aspects of McConnell's role and background include:

  1. He oversees initiatives that encourage the participation of Canadian small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in federal defense and security procurements.1

  2. McConnell is involved in promoting activities such as technology transfer, investments in R&D, export sales, and skills development within the context of defense contracts.1

  3. He has attended industry events like CANSEC, Canada's global defense and security trade show, as part of his professional activities.3

  4. Prior to his current position, McConnell likely gained experience in the aerospace and defense sectors, given the specialized nature of his role.

On this 80th anniversary of the start of the Battle of Normandy, my thoughts are with all those Canadians who served, many of whom fell that day.

Let's ensure the memory of their service, and of D-Day, is kept alive.

En ce 80e anniversaire du début de la bataille de Normandie, mes pensées vont à tous les Canadiens qui ont servi, dont beaucoup sont tombés ce jour-là.

Faisons en sorte que la mémoire de leur service, et du jour J, reste vivante.

My team and I were very pleased to have participated at #CANSEC2024.

A huge thank you to Christyn (Chris) Cianfarani and the incredible team at Canadian Association of Defence and Security Industries (CADSI) for all the time, hard work and energy they invested to ensure that those attending had a great experience. In my view, this was the best edition of CANSEC ever.

A sincere thank you as well to our existing clients, and to those we newly met, for being so generous with your time in speaking with us. It is a privilege to serve you as your regional representatives for southern Ontario and we look forward to our follow-up discussions.

I would also like to express my sincere appreciation to our government colleagues, particularly those at the other regional development agencies, at MEDJCT (Emma Ferrone and Aaditya Thakar), and at ISED, for being such great partners in supporting economic development in Canada. I have so much respect for you all.

And a huge thanks to all those present in uniform from the Canadian Armed Forces and from the Ottawa Police Service. Thank you for your service to Canada and to our community.
