Kevin Chang

Kevin C.C. Chang is a Professor in Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC).23 He received his BS from National Taiwan University and PhD in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University in 2001.3
Chang's research focuses on large-scale information access, search, mining, and integration across structured and unstructured big data, with current emphasis on Web search/mining and social media analytics.3 He leads the FORWARD Data Lab at UIUC, which aims to bridge structured and unstructured data using techniques from natural language processing, data mining, databases, information retrieval, and machine learning.3
Throughout his career, Chang has received several awards and honors, including:

He is also passionate about applying research to real-world applications. Chang co-founded Cazoodle, a startup that builds search engines by developing web content into databases.13 Additionally, he developed GrantForward.com, a funding discovery and dissemination service used by over 200 institutions.3
Chang has been recognized for his teaching excellence, appearing on the UIUC List of Teachers Ranked as Excellent by Their Students multiple times between 2001 and 2023.3
