The recent Optus outage serves as a compelling example for us to reconsider our heavy reliance on fundamental services like water, electricity, gas, and the internet. This incident also makes us reflect on how to respond to such occurrences.

When network providers like Optus encounter an outage, it significantly impacts their users, leading to difficulties in running the operations and tasks. Rather than blaming the service provider, it's essential to pause and reassess our dependence on such services. Besides, an alternative solution is necessary to continue our daily routine.

This morning, I spent a few hours at a café due to the outage affecting both my phone and NBN (National Broadband Network), and it prompted some interesting observations.

Firstly, I noticed increased productivity. The initial struggle of being without internet access compelled me to get my work done at the nearby café, leading to quicker task completion.

Secondly, the outage offered an opportunity to reconnect with people around me. I’d be able to engage with the café owner, staff, and others facing the same internet disruption, and struggle to get the internet connections.

While the inconvenience caused by the Optus outage remains a reality, it's important to acknowledge that the service provider is actively rectifying the issue. We, as users can choose to wait for the network's recovery or explore alternative means to resume our daily work.

Although making new arrangements might cause inconvenience, this experience, in the end, wasn't entirely negative for me. The outage provided a chance to discover new routines and adapt to different ways of managing daily life.

It's good to be ready for change, even if things are uncertain. This helps us be prepared for when things don't work as expected. 😁
