🤔Why is change so hard?
Change is a constant in life, a dynamic force shaping our existence from the subtle shifts of seasons to profound moments of personal transformation. While its inevitability is undeniable, why do we often find it challenging to navigate? Here are some insights into the complexities of change and how we can harness its potential.
🛋️Comfort. We humans love comfort and drift toward the warm welcoming way of the familiar. Change is uncomfortable, isolating, and can make you feel exposed.
🛜Attention. Our minds are constantly bombarded with stimuli, nudging us toward familiar routines and muscle memory. Have you ever arrived at your destination without recalling the journey? Change compels us to forge new neural networks and venture beyond our well-trodden paths.
🙈Biases and Perspective. Our innate biases and mental shortcuts can narrow our worldview, limiting our capacity for change. Recognizing and challenging these biases is crucial for fostering a more expansive perspective.
🧠Analysis Paralysis. In search of a perfect path to change we do not move. We remunerate on ideas tricking our minds into feeling productive but we are not actually doing anything.
Practical strategies for change
🎬Just Start. Keep moving forward. Sometimes the hardest part is convincing yourself to begin.
✅Get Sh*t Done. Set goals, come up with to dos and keep track. Use data to show your emotional brain that you are making progress.
🤗Embrace Uncertainty. Accepting the unpredictability of change liberates us from the illusion of control, fostering adaptability and resilience.
⏳Allow Time. Allow yourself the grace of time, recognizing that meaningful transformation often unfolds gradually.
📈Compound Effect. Just like the magic of compound interest in your retirement account build on small wins toward exponential growth
What are your experiences with change? What are your ways to move toward growth?
If what you choose to pay attention to today will frame your experience, where will you focus your attention today?
This question creates more questions than answers for me. I come back to attention on my lived reality happening right now…in the seconds that are passing…
