Today’s funding announcement is incredibly humbling and exciting. We always built this company to be a profitable business – one less reliant on venture funding – to ensure that we could build and run the business in a way that best serves the needs of our customers and to be able to make decisions that prioritized their needs over growth at all costs, or trying to sell to every company under the sun. With today’s fundraise, we get to maintain that and double down on the reasons companies like Sephora, Under Armour, and Petco switched from their legacy search engines to us, and have given us the privilege of building alongside them.

This fundraise gives us more capital to invest in critical, emerging AI and data science work that has helped us become the fastest growing platform in a space traditionally owned by companies like Google and Elastic. Our continual investment in product and data science is something I value so highly as a leader here – it’s also the reason that Constructor customers stick around at an average retention rate of 98.5%. It’s the figure I’m most proud of and it’s also the key to our continued growth – if we stay humble and focused on the product, then our customers will continue to do as they have in the past, which is to share the product experience with their friends in commerce & retail.

Our friend and VP at Petco, Tony G. says, “The thing we liked about Constructor was that not only was it real AI, specifically made for our industry, but that their AI is incredibly transparent. None of it is black box”. That is our highest obligation, so much so that a core mantra for us is: “instead of flashy marketing or sales, we believe every retailer should be able to make their search & product discovery buying decision by seeing evidence of our platform’s machine learning on their own products and data. Customers shouldn’t have to just trust us. They should be able to make us prove our system works the way we say it does and can do so on their own data.” These are truer words now that we have this fundraise to reinvest back into the platform for our current and future customers – so back to work we go.
