Each day, the work of Penn Medicine unfolds across laboratories, clinics, and communities. Recently, we added another space to the list: the newly refurbished basketball court in Roberto Clemente Park in Fairmount.   Collaborating with the Philadelphia 76ers, the restoration of the park and court includes new backboards and nets, repainted benches, and a repaved court, along with landscaping. Research from Penn Medicine has shown the many benefits refurbished and greened spaces bring to neighborhoods and public health.   Sixers legend Julius Erving, new Sixers players Jared McCain and Adem Bona, and leadership from Penn Medicine and the Sixers participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony last week. Afterward, local children were invited to a basketball skills clinic led by the Sixers.   Through a partnership since 2022, Penn Medicine and the Sixers have focused on initiatives that promote physical activity, well-being, neighborhood safety, and community. Projects like the court revamp help us bring this idea to life. Fittingly, the new court is awash in bright red and blue – the shared colors of the Sixers and Penn Medicine.
