Kevin Mclaughlin

Kevin McLaughlin is the Director of the Engineering Diversity and Outreach Center (EDOC) at the University of Connecticut, which has recently been rebranded as the Vergnano Institute for Inclusion. He graduated from UConn in 1983 with degrees in Materials Science & Engineering and Chemical Engineering. Following his graduation, he spent a decade in various leadership and managerial roles within the engineering industry before transitioning to education.

In 1993, McLaughlin became a certified teacher and began his teaching career at E. O. Smith High School, where he was highly regarded for his ability to inspire students in chemistry and physics. He returned to the University of Connecticut in 2002 as the Director of Diversity Programs, where he has significantly contributed to the growth and development of diversity initiatives within the College of Engineering. His work includes overseeing numerous outreach programs aimed at promoting inclusion and diversity in engineering fields, such as BRIDGE, Explore Engineering, and others.12

McLaughlin's dedication to fostering an inclusive environment has earned him recognition, including the 2014 Provost Award for Excellence in Community Engaged Scholarship at UConn. He is known not only as a mentor and advisor but also as a close friend to many students.23
