A week from today Tom Deierlein will celebrate his 18th Alive Day — On September 9, 2006 he was shot and nearly killed in Iraq.
For 7 months he #labored through rehabilitation and went from barely surviving to #thriving. And for more than 17 years since, he has #labored tirelessly to help more than 750’Veterans and their families in need do the same.
For the past 7 weeks TD Foundation has celebrated the impact Tom has made with TDF - his #labor of love, support, and kindness, telling the stories of 50 Veterans whose lives were changed forever because of Tom’s generosity.

When cleaning out my office yesterday I came across a lettter from my Dad with one of my favorite poems attached to it.
I first read “IF” by Rudyard Kipling as a sophomore at the College of the Holy Cross. My Dad sent it to me 25 years later at a time when I was struggling and barely surviving. His note of encouragement included a eminder that I would “thrive again.”
It’s funny — when I re-read the poem and my Dad’s letter yesterday it made me think about the work we are doing at ZeroMils.
In just a few verses Kipling inspires us to deal with both triumphs and trials; trusting oneself in the face of doubt and doubters; accepting responsibility to act and overcome adversity, and staying true to one's values. He highlights the importance of perseverance, humility, self-belief, and integrity.
A few of my favorite lines 👇
———
If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you, If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can dream—and not make dreams your master; If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim; If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster And treat those two impostors just the same;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you, If all men count with you, but none too much; If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it, And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

Happy #LaborDay.
