I've been on a tour of sorts all summer with Metro's Housing Division to listen to a variety of neighbors on their housing journey, needs, resources, and trends in the community. It has been really emotional, impactful, and also very insightful. I have gathered some themes that I believe Nashville has the tools and resources to address.

The result of this summer's efforts, along with practitioner engagement and market analysis from colleagues, will be the city's first Unified Housing Strategy.

Thank you to NOAH - Nashville Organized for Action and Hope for being a community ambassador, and also our last stop on the tour.

Thank you to each of our partners who have hosted listening sessions.

“In predominantly White spaces, a Black woman is expected to code-switch, mimic White culture, and either explicitly or implicitly affirm harmful propaganda about Black people, in order to signal that she can be trusted by the establishment. Beyond that, she is also expected to turn a blind eye to the presence and implications of institutional racism and its impact on herself and other Black people, both within the organization and without. If she is willing to do these things, she will be rewarded with both upward mobility and proximity to the gatekeepers that hold power within that ecosystem.” - Dr. Shauna D. A. Knox
