I am grateful for the awesome, inspiring, hilarious friends I’ve made through the Brown Alumni Association Board over the past four years! It’s been a pleasure to gather in support of Brown and to embrace the connections that draw us back to each other and Providence.

Thank you to Zack L. and his incredible team for making it a rewarding experience for volunteers.

I will carry the lessons I learned with me forever:

  • “Embrace the libations,” as Carlos Lejnieks would say. 😎 The casual conversations that happen after the formal gatherings are just as meaningful, if not more so.
  • Take an interest in people personally and make it fun! I will cherish all the time I got to spend together with new and old friends in Providence and on Zoom.
  • Connect outside of official channels too (WhatsApp / FB / LinkedIn etc). It makes it easier to continue the convos and friendships (sounds obvious, but it makes a difference)!
  • Committee work can be very rewarding and productive, especially when we tackle homework between meetings. Many thanks to Mary Ward in particular for leading the way with the Multicultural/Community & Belonging Committee and teaching me so much.
  • Rep your Brown swag at meetings whenever you can! 🐻
  • Express your interest in opportunities, and you might be surprised where that takes you.
  • Bonus: Share these opportunities with others so that they can learn what is possible too. I first heard about the BAA board through Jade Palomino and was inspired by her example.

I am amazed that more than a decade later, I am still learning from my experiences at Brown.

Ever true 🤎❤️
