Kirsten Potenza is the CEO and Founder of POUND® - Rockout. Workout., a unique fitness program that combines drumming with cardio to create an engaging workout experience. She founded POUND® at the age of 24 and has since transformed it into a global phenomenon, with over 25,000 instructors teaching the program in more than 100 countries.12
Early Life and Background
Potenza grew up in a small town in upstate New York and was active in sports from a young age. She became a Division One athlete at UCLA, where she was part of the rowing team. This experience fostered her love for group fitness environments, which later influenced her approach to POUND®.12
Entrepreneurial Journey
Her entrepreneurial spirit emerged early; at just six years old, she opened a backyard arts and crafts store named the "Forget-me-not Shop." This early venture laid the groundwork for her future endeavors in business.1
POUND® Concept
POUND® is described as the world’s first cardio jam session, where participants use lightly weighted "ripstix" to drum along to music, creating an experience akin to attending a concert. The program emphasizes inclusivity and community, aiming to disconnect participants from traditional workout pressures like counting reps or watching the clock.23
Philosophy
Potenza leads her life and business with the mantra "Be Good. Do Good." This philosophy reflects her commitment to creating a positive impact through fitness and community engagement.1
In summary, Kirsten Potenza is not only an innovator in the fitness industry but also a dedicated entrepreneur whose background in athletics and early entrepreneurial experiences have shaped her successful career with POUND®.
Highlights
In a world where experiences can be intimidating and exclusive, profit is often prioritized before people and calorie counting, “problem areas” and before + after pictures are the standard, POUND believed the fitness industry could do better.
Starting this journey as a company was, to say the least, a rebellious act. It shouldn’t be about the rules, approvals, and standards society places on us. It shouldn’t drain your soul.
We believe fitness is a journey, a form of self-expression. We believe that self-improvement should come from within. We believe that fitness should be used to change minds before bodies, and that beat and alternative movement can launch people to new heights of self-worth, happiness, and human connection.
What if, instead of sinking into a society that perpetually tries to separate us, we do everything to create the glue that puts us all back together?
Fitness Rebels, it’s time to change the story. We’ve started it together, but we are far from finished. It’s time to lean into your fears, kick down society’s perception of perfect, stand out, TAKE UP SPACE and make your OWN rules.
Because sometimes the most rebellious thing you can do, is be yourself. #BORNTOREBEL
