Some wounds truly take a lifetime to heal…

One of the many injuries from the helicopter crash that people don’t realize I deal with is my right arm/side. I’ve had two previous repairs on my shoulder, and it decided we should have another surgery for old times' sake. My incredible team at The Steadman Clinic removed all the old hardware/sutures, loose bodies/tissue, and shredded cartilage and put five new anchors in.

Going into the operating room, I was ready to run until the last minute. My blood pressure has never been high, but the stress (and even panic) of the thought of how brutal this recovery will be with the prosthetic and even the setbacks to my training and climbs have gotten to me over the last couple of months.

Now that I’m a week in, I feel better about it all… though there’s still plenty to navigate. Five more weeks in the sling and several months of physical therapy, and we will be as good as new.

PS: I made sure to add the stocking and orange sock to my wardrobe 😄.

Every scar tells a story of resilience, and every summit conquered says a lot about our determination. Some challenges seem impossible to overcome; I know firsthand the weight of doubt and the allure of giving up when things get tough. However, the other side of adversity offers a view like no other.

I’ve climbed literal and figurative mountains with this body of mine. It hasn’t been easy. There are days when the mountain seems to grow taller, and the summit is farther away. Yet, every step is still a victory for me, no matter how small.

Always remember that your journey is unique. There will be setbacks and storms, but within every challenge lies an opportunity for growth. Fight the urge of comparison and focus on your climb; your summit is closer than you think. And remember to take time away from the hustle and carve out time for yourself. Our bodies know when we lack balance. Nourish your spirit with the things that spark your joy. It’s in these moments that fresh perspectives and renewed creative energy emerge.
