Kitty Brandtner is a prominent nonprofit founder and advocate based in Chicago, Illinois. She is the founder of two organizations: March Fourth and Aftermath.

Background and Education

Kitty grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and was raised by a single mother alongside her sisters, which instilled in her a strong feminist perspective. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Iowa in 2009. Following her graduation, she began her career at LaSalle Network, a recruiting firm in Chicago, where she spent 14 years and helped build the Technology practice into the firm's largest unit.1

March Fourth and Aftermath

In response to the mass shootings in Buffalo, Uvalde, and Highland Park, Kitty founded March Fourth shortly after the Highland Park shooting on July 4, 2022. This nonprofit organization aims to advocate for a federal assault weapons ban and mobilizes communities to push for legislative change. Within days of its inception, March Fourth organized a rally that drew over 500 supporters and facilitated meetings with congressional representatives, contributing to the passage of an assault weapons ban bill in the House.12

Kitty later established Aftermath to connect and support communities affected by mass shootings, focusing on amplifying the voices of victims and survivors while fostering healing and change in the wake of such tragedies. She left her full-time role at LaSalle Network in 2023 to dedicate herself fully to her advocacy work with these nonprofits.13

Current Role

As of now, Kitty Brandtner continues to lead Aftermath, focusing on community connection and education regarding the impacts of gun violence in America.4
