Unlocking Growth Through Partnerships: Why CAC is Just One Piece of the Puzzle

A recent conversation with a founder looking to hire for partnerships and establish partnerships as the primary GTM strategy brought up an interesting point. Many worry about Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC) increasing due to commissions or partner-related expenses. While this can happen, it is not always the case. In some scenarios, CAC may actually decrease as partners absorb sales costs and in few cases share marketing expenses as well.

But even if CAC does rise, the bigger focus should be on the Lifetime Value (LTV) to CAC ratio. Partners bring more than just sales: they offer credibility, bundle solutions, and act as trusted advisors, which boosts retention and increases LTV. Since partners are incentivized to retain customers for their own growth, they actively work on maintaining long-term relationships.

In the long run, a strong LTV/CAC ratio makes partner-driven opportunities much more valuable, leading to sustainable growth.
