🚨New publication! Jiemin Looi, Haseon Park and I took a look at how researchers are constructing their social media data collection queries.

In our study, we reviewed recent computational advertising studies to understand whether 1) data retrieval queries were replicable and 2) if outcomes of precision, recall, engagement and sentiment could be affected by the query writing style.

What we learned was that indeed, this is an important gap in the methodological CA literature and that how researchers write queries during their social media data collection can have statistically significant impact on their results.

We introduce a query writing process called Iterative Complex Boolean (ICB) operators to enhance resulting data set precision in future computational social science research using social media data.
