Kristen Weller is a passionate and dedicated Costume Technician with a rich educational background and diverse professional experience in the world of theater and costume design. She currently studies at the University of Texas at Austin, where she is pursuing a Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) in Costume Technology, showcasing her commitment to advancing her skills and knowledge in the field. Kristen has built a substantial portfolio of work across various prestigious organizations in the performing arts. She has served as the Costume Crafts/Head Milliner at Minnesota Opera, where she mastered the intricate art of crafting hats and accessories that bring characters to life on stage. Her expertise was further utilized in the role of LED Wardrobe Specialist for the MUSE Simulation Theory World Tour, where she combined her love for costume design with cutting-edge technology, emphasizing her ability to adapt and innovate in the evolving landscape of performance art. Over the years, Kristen has held multiple roles at Minnesota Opera, including First Hand and Crafts Assistant, which allowed her to refine her craftsmanship skills and collaborate with talented peers in creating visually stunning costumes.
In addition to her work with Minnesota Opera, Kristen has made significant contributions as a Project Manager at VStar Entertainment Group, where she honed her leadership and organizational skills, ensuring that projects were completed on time and to the highest standards of quality. Her experience at VStar further included her role as a Costume Technician, where she focused on the technical aspects of costume production, from concept designs to the final fitting. Additionally, she has been a dedicated Teacher's Assistant at both the University of Texas at Austin and Taipei National University for the Arts, sharing her knowledge and fostering creativity in the next generation of costume designers. Kristen has also gained hands-on experience at Texas Performing Arts and the Santa Fe Opera, where she further developed her stitching and draping techniques.
Kristen's career reflects a strong blend of technical expertise, artistic vision, and a commitment to collaboration. Her work at the Utah Shakespearean Festival as a Costume Technician and Wardrobe further solidifies her ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and uphold professionalism and polish in her creations.
