Highlights
How it started...the day we became Optum. June 3, 2011 (one year in for me) How it's going...today, March 18, 2022, my last day at Optum.
It is where I created something from nothing, figured out a strategy, and got others on board with this thing called #socialmediamarketing and while it was not easy--I loved every minute of that climb. I had managers who believed in me, when I wasn't sure of myself. Carrie Maurer, Ryan Coats--and of course my late-great, amazing manager Kevin Abramson...who was my best cheerleader and knew the way to motivate me was to challenge me with extra things.
They helped me build a team that rocked and I'm forever #grateful. The years with Carly Macgowan, Danielle Montag, Michelle Siewert (Maxwell), Whitney Swanson and Olivia Bettin are some of my fondest memories. Yes, I was trying to build and learn how to lead, making all sorts of mistakes, but they made it easy.
Yes, all the stories you read are true. A lot of us in social, especially those of us who have been doing it for 5+ years, are just tired. Tired of the crisis of the month/day club, or of the 'new leader' coming in asking "Have you tried (insert wildly weird idea here or new channel)?" but still struggling to get resources together to keep up with the daily stuff. Not bitter, not closing doors, just need a reset.
Now, while I have been asked if I'm retiring (Gah! I hate that I'm old enough for people to ask it that way), my answer is "Not yet." I am just taking some time to clear my head and recharge, while hoping to consult and help others build their programs.
Just a pause...
I started the 'fake commute' back when I worked from home full-time when my kids were young. I walked them to the bus stop and when I got back, I started work. A year ago, when my husband & I did a month in Florida (pre-pandemic), I walked the beach before starting my day. Now, at home in the pandemic, I walk/run to get my morning coffee, after clearing out email, listen to a podcast and just clear my head. #wfhtips #fakecommute
