Highlights
I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Account Director at Razorfish! I’ve got that first day of school feeling; excited for new challenges with the team.
LinkedIn changing my algorithm to local fast food gigs. (Marcus Kawakami , they’re onto us; they know our love for Panda).
The world is changing. Fast. I’ve got some good news coming soon, but when I first saw my top jobs changed, I wasn’t sure if it brought emotions to give up the fight or inspiration to take a gig to pay my bills for some much needed consistency in a very unstable job market.
And all of a sudden, I felt embarrassed. Built in world measuring success by achievement, people who were laid off and cut from their gigs struggle with an overwhelming amount of fear. By this metric system, we’re now labeled failures. And the system isn’t functioning properly to allow us to re-enter; a fight overshadowed by doom day in and day out. Director level applications are now employee applications for position 2693 and 1966 at a local QSR.
Truth is, the world is increasingly becoming backwards; just like many of the processes and projects we have to adapt to because of a budget or late breaking feedback or some other unexpected obstacle.
Seth Rogen went 2 years without a job in LA before landing consistency with Freaks and Geeks to launch his comedy career after meeting and working with Judd Apatow. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck were living off a joint bank account with under 100 bucks in it at times. Morgan Spurlock was in debt up to his head, sleeping in a hammock before landing his deal for Super Size me (you spoke at a Phi Gam event years ago - your speech got me through unemployment more than you know).
I know a ton of people are without jobs and struggling not only financially, but mentally. Exhaustion from this wild market that’s been impacted by Covid, Strikes, Inflation, Aquisitions, Buy Outs, Re-Orgs.
Now’s the time to invest in yourself. Do that thing you’ve wanted to do your entire life but never did. I wrote my first feature length script I’m proud of, a real J.K. Rowling moment. What do you have to lose?
Just remember what the true definition of succes is. Remember who you are at your core.
Don’t give up and do what you gotta do. But most importantly, remembers culture rememeber works, not resumes.
P.S. Thanks Panda for the un-warranted inspo post.
