I recently had the privilege of delivering a lecture on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Construction at California State University, Fresno anticipating the students' questions, during Q&A, I focused on two key areas:

  1. Will AI displace jobs? What will the future of construction jobs look like?
  2. How can we start integrating AI into our industry?

To provide insightful answers, I consulted ChatGPT and found several intriguing future roles in construction:

  • AI Designer: Creates adaptive structures using algorithms.
  • Robo-Builder: Operates drones and robots for on-site construction.
  • Data Miner Foreman: Analyzes data to optimize processes and materials.
  • Virtual Reality Planner: Crafts immersive pre-construction walkthroughs.
  • Eco-Analyzer: Ensures projects are green, calculating environmental impact.
  • 3D Printing Specialist: Uses 3D printers to build complex components.
  • Efficiency Expert: Implements AI-powered lean construction principles.
  • BIM Technologist: Utilizes Building Information Modeling for digital collaboration.

I am passionate about the potential of AI in the AEC industry and eager to share my insights. For those looking to start with AI in construction, perhaps an online course on leveraging AI for AEC would be beneficial. What do you think? Would you be interested in such a course?

It was a pleasure engaging in discussion with students and giving back thanks Manideep Tummalapudi, Ph.D. for the invitation. Looking forward to furure collaboration
