Highlights
Today marks 2 months since I was unexpectedly laid off from my role as Associate Creative Director at REVOLT, and like so many of my friends and colleagues in this field that have shared similar news of late, the last few weeks have been a rollercoaster to put it mildly.
About a week or so before receiving the news, I'd mentioned to my fiancée that I could see myself laying roots at the company and growing as a leader alongside the creative agency team that was still relatively new, but doing a lot of truly phenomenal work on behalf of its clients and the REVOLT brand at large. Of course, as the proverb goes, "We plan, God laughs," 🤣 LOL, and it's with that sentiment in mind that I'm hoping to embrace this moment of uncertainty.
Though my time at my last job was unexpectedly brief, it also had an immeasurable impact on the way that I approach my role as a creative lead and it left me with a lot of skills and gems that I look forward to carrying into my next opportunity:
Working with Andre Woolery taught me to prioritize telling familiar stories in unconventional ways, that good ideas can come from any department, what it looks like to brainstorm expansively, and how to build on the ideas that leap off the page. Learning the art behind Art Direction from Aves Scott, Juriel Majeed, and Erlen Masson reinforced that a great story or concept is nothing without really dope, culturally-relevant visuals that can speak for themselves, and collaborating with the #000000 Production team showed me what it looks like to create a top notch experience for clients, talent and crew on set.
As I continue this search for my next full time role I would really appreciate any leads my network can offer for creative, production or marketing openings in music, entertainment media, or creative agencies + production companies that are doing culturally-informed work (especially those that are making content geared towards multicultural audiences).
What they'd be getting is a team-oriented, results-driven, creative leader with a passion for telling a good story and a decade of experience producing everything from mini documentaries, to music editorial, digital ads, IG Reels, interactive concerts, and pretty much anything else a client or strategist could dream up in deck format.
And if there's anything I can do on my end to support folks who've found themselves in a similar predicament, please don't hesitate to reach out! #OpentoWork
